Lifestyles
Published in Paperback by Naiad Pr (May, 1990)
Average review score:

Probably her bestLifestyles is Jackie Calhoun's first book and, for those of you like me who have read her others, ironically it might be her best. There is much more character and plot development than you typically find in a Calhoun book. Her central figures are Kate and Pat. Kate arrives at the family lake home running from a failed marriage of 24 years. Somehow, without her noticing, her husband has fallen in love with a much younger woman. Kate doesn't know what else to do but get away. At the lake she meets Pat, who is in the midst of a crumbling relationship of her own. They start out as good friends who enjoy sailing, swimming and just talking about things. This book covers a time span of almost two years, so you get a real chance to see things develop. Kate is trying to define her relationships with a number of people - her grown children, her estranged brother who returns to her life just in time to discover he's dying of AIDS, the mortician who wants to marry her, her dead parents, but most of all Pat. You get a good, but little less clear picture of Pat who is also trying to figure out where she went wrong in her relationship with Gail, but more importantly is trying to understand the pull she is feeling towards Kate. It's a well developed story and gives some very real glimpses of what just plain every day life is like when everything seems to be falling apart around you. If you like Calhoun's work, you'll really like this one.

Magic in the Alley.
Published in School & Library Binding by Scribner (June, 1970)
Average review score:

magical bookI will never forget this book. If a good children's book is a treat then this is a banana split. Please find it used or go to the library and get it for your children. It's about a little girl who finds a box of magic in a junkstore in an alley. It contains seven objects which have various magical powers that can only be used once. I think is was written in the fifties. It is delightfully old-fashioned and fun to read.

An Excellent State HerpetologyThis is an excellent book on the amphibians, turtles, and reptiles of Maine. Great text, detailed maps, good photographs, up-to-date taxonomy, and adheres to standardized common names. An authoritative and easily-used guide that will serve well both North American herpetologists and the citizens of Maine. Highly recommended.

Managing the Learning Process in Business Education 1995
Published in Paperback by Colonial Pr (July, 1995)
Average review score:

Collectively SuperbI was astonished by the coverage of this book. Not only was there so much information on methods of teaching business subjects, but there were so many references and links to more information incorporated into the topics. The style of the book was very appealing. I very much enjoyed being part of the audience to who he was writing the book for. Business teachers in a whole should read this book. It definitely gives one a taste for some change if its needed. Overall, I thought this book was an exceptional learning aid to any business teacher.

Pas Larrie Londin Benefit Concert
Published in Audio Cassette by Warner Brothers Publications (02 November, 1999)
Average review score:

Great Cause, Exceptional TalentNot only was this video created for a great cause (in honor of legendary country drummer, Larrie Londin and creating scholorships for musicians), but it is a fabulous display of amazing drumming.
What's great is you see 4 different styles of drumming at such a high level: Dom Famularo (Top World Soloist), Terry Bozzio (Zappa), Chester Thompson (Genesis) and Will Calhoun (Living Colour). Also, the Hip Pickles (percussion group of 3) are an extreme collective talent - a must see! And at the end, they all perform together.

Playboating the Nantahala River: An Entry Level Guide
Published in Paperback by Milestone Press (01 May, 1998)
Average review score:

Excellent beginners guide to a beautiful river! After canoeing the Nantahala recently, I bought Kelly's book to see if there was something I may have missed along the way. I wish I had bought the book before my trip! He lays out each section and explains the hazards and key stratagies for each rapid. He explains the river so even a lay person can understand how you should approach this great river. I highly recommend this book for anyone who plans a trip down the Nantahala "Land of the Noon Day Sun".

Sociology: An Introduction
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Companies (January, 1991)
Average review score:

Excellent TextbookI was spoiled to have Dr. Gelles be my professor while I was using the textbook for my intro course at Penn. The textbook itself draws in many interesting sociological concepts using examples from real research and historical data. I don't see why someone who wants to learn about sociology, history, and a lot of other things wouldn't just read this book. The book is well organized and designed to culminate knowledge from previous chapters to develop the sociological imagination.
